A fee-only financial planner since 1983, I deliver a clear, realistic view of my clients’ circumstances with creative solutions to optimize wealth.  Before forming SFG in 1993, I was Manager of Financial Planning at Royal Trust, one of Canada’s leading trust companies.

My specialty is untangling complicated cases and stream-lining plans for greater results.  My client focus is on long-range planning, transitions and operational efficiencies.  My clients are healthcare professionals, lawyers, executives and business owners.

A graduate of Economics from McMaster University, I am a Registered Financial Planner (RFP) with the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP) and a Trust and Estate Practitioner with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).  I am an active member of the Estate Planning Council of Toronto.

I regularly contribute to the National Post’s Family Finance” column and am often quoted in the Globe and Mail and Financial Post Magazine.

Mission and Values

I am here to help you create a proper financial plan that will help you achieve realistic goals for you and your family.

Getting to know you and the specifics of your financial life is the first step.  Proper financial planning is a process that begins by analysing all the elements of a client’s situation.  I believe that, by paying attention to the details and understanding how your life will evolve, I can project how your financial condition will change over time.  This helps you better understand your options.

I believe in collaborating with your other advisors (accountants, investment and insurance professionals) to create an all-encompassing plan and help you oversee it with singular focus.

Regular reviews add value and help you monitor your options and limits.  This gives you confidence that the important decisions you make today will improve your quality of life (more confidence, less worry) and not adversely affect your family’s future.

I strongly believe charging a fee based solely on hours worked on your file offers the most independent and objective advice available.  I do not sell investment products, services or insurance.  The only thing I sell is good advice.

“Several years ago we were at the point in our financial lives that we felt our needs were getting greater than our ability to look after them.

We met with Daniel and discussed our long term goals, investment objectives and financial needs and decided to have him assess our income / expenses profile and provide detailed projections illustrating how our assets will change over time. We met again to discuss his findings and recommendations. We dealt with the asset mix, the asset management people and the total fee schedule.

Daniel listened to our concerns and we were impressed with his conservative approach to projected returns. He carefully explained some financial terms as well as risk factors etc. for us.

One of the things that intrigued us the most was the fact that as a financial planner, he had no vested interest in the management of our portfolio. In other words, he wasn’t selling any investments but rather was billing for his expertise in finding the best management for our investments. Daniel acted as a facilitator between ourselves and the investment counselors (the people who do the actual money management). He arranged a meeting with these people and we found it to be most interesting and informative. Again, terms were explained and our questions were answered.

Now, several times a year, usually after receiving our statements from our investment counselor, we meet with Daniel to review our portfolio. We have found all the people we have dealt with to be very approachable. It is with confidence that we write this letter of recommendation for Daniel Stronach and the Stronach Financial Group.”
